Our one-day Incident Investigation course provides delegates with the knowledge and practical skills needed to investigate workplace accidents and incidents effectively. The course covers legal responsibilities, evidence gathering, root cause analysis, action planning, and RIDDOR reporting requirements, enabling delegates to identify causes and help prevent recurrence.
Objectives:
By the end of the course, delegates will understand the legal requirements for incident investigation, be able to carry out structured investigations, gather and analyse evidence, identify root causes, prepare effective action plans, and contribute confidently to investigations that help prevent future incidents.
Course Content:
- Understanding incidents, accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences.
- Legal, moral and financial reasons for investigating incidents.
- Management system requirements, including ISO 45001.
- Gathering and preserving physical and digital evidence.
- Conducting effective witness interviews using the PEACE model.
- Human factors and understanding why incidents occur.
- Root cause analysis and identifying immediate, underlying and root causes.
- Developing corrective action plans using the hierarchy of controls.
- RIDDOR reporting requirements and accident record keeping.
Assessment:
The course requires learners to sit a multi-choice consolidation assessment.
